Key 1: China has an increasingly sweet tooth

As China’s economy blooms, people’s living standard improves. Demand for consumer goods has been rising rapidly in the past few years. People have shifted to consuming more canned/packaged drinks, confectionary and instant food, most of which contain sweeteners. China’s per capita consumption of sugar and sweeteners has doubled to 12 kg from 10 years ago. This number is not astonishing when compared to the world average per capita consumption of 25 kg. It is very likely that China will have a sweeter tooth in the next decade to reach the world’s average.
